Provost's Message: Safe Return to Campus

Dear Gators,

We are days away from our Safe Return to Campus, and I look forward to seeing many of you back at UHD very soon.

Many of us have adapted very well to the “new normal” of working from our homes and utilizing virtual platforms. I must say that the productivity I’ve witnessed from faculty and staff—not to mention students—has been nothing short of impressive. Ultimately, however, we recognize that a large part of our university’s dynamic energy comes from the vibrant campus culture we all enjoy…and miss. We will begin the slow, careful, process of re-energizing our campus next week as we launch the first phase of the Safe Return plan. Working together, we will make sure that our gradual return to campus ensures the safety of our entire Gator family.

Previous messages have communicated the processes and policies associated with Phase I of the Safe Return to Campus, and UHD recently hosted a Town Hall Meeting to address questions on this matter. Some of the topics addressed in these communications include new Plexiglas shields in high traffic areas, Personal Protective Equipment provided to returning staff members, enhanced campus cleaning methods and other measures focused on safeguarding the community.

Some of you may feel anxious to get back to your offices and pick up where you left off before campus was closed. Others might have some concerns about coming back. Be assured that many people are working around the clock to prepare our campus for your return. Nevertheless, our ability to keep campus safe for everyone requires teamwork. I ask each member of the Gator family to do her or his part to help. Please continue to wash your hands regularly, wear masks in public areas, maintain proper distancing when possible, follow elevator protocol, and be vigilant and conscientious in all matters related to the Safe Return to campus.

Admittedly, 2020 has already been a long year for all of us (and it's only June), but everyone has done a spectacular job of working diligently to support the University and its students.

Thank you for your hard work and, more importantly, your commitment to UHD. The University could not continue its mission without your efforts.
