Provost's Message: First Week at UHD

Dear UHD Community,

Classes are under way for the spring 2019 semester, and I want to take this opportunity to greet the entire University of Houston-Downtown community and wish everyone a productive, dynamic, and successful spring semester.

This week, I walked through the halls on the third floor of One Main and had a chance to interact with students. The positive energy and anticipation they had for the coming semester was palpable. The students I met were enthusiastic about their classes and were proud to be members of the UHD community—I share that enthusiasm and pride.

I particularly want to thank all of the fine people in ESO for the great job they did leading the incoming “New Employee Class of January 14” through a daylong orientation on Monday. Getting to learn from all of the professionals in ESO about our fine institution while spending the day with a number of other talented, dedicated people, who recently joined UHD, was a really nice way to spend my first official day on campus. The enthusiasm, respect, and pride that everyone has for this institution was evident throughout the day, and it only served to confirm what I have sensed all along: the heart of the University of Houston-Downtown is to be found in its people, and I am deeply proud to be a Gator.

I consider it an honor and a privilege to be able to serve this institution alongside you. Together, we will advance UHD’s mission and continue to realize the potential encapsulated in our vision statement: to be a premier city University engaging every student in high-impact educational experiences and ensuring that students graduate with 21st century skills.

During the coming weeks, I look forward to meeting each of you and working with the entire UHD family to grow our university and support the good work of faculty, staff, and supporters of our institution.

My sincere thanks to each of you and to President Muñoz for the invitation to join the UHD community and help contribute to our progress and success. I wish each of you the very best as we start the spring semester.

Go Gators!
