O'Kane Theatre Presents Fall Production Nov. 3-11

Summary

By Sheryl E. Taylor

This fall the O'Kane Theatre will feature the play, "I Never Saw Another Butterfly" by Celeste Raspanti, Nov. 3 - 11.

Based upon the true story of the children and a survivor, named Reja, from the Nazi children's concentration camp in the Terezin ghetto (outside of Prague, Czechoslovakia), the play centers around Reja's relationship with Irena—art teacher who encourages the children to draw, paint, and write poetry. In order to preserve their works of art, the children buried their material to be discovered later after the liberation. More than 15,000 Jewish children passed through this ghetto and only about 100 were alive at the end of the war.

In the Theater's lobby, an installation will be on display, which will feature a butterfly case from the Holocaust Museum Houston. Each butterfly in the exhibit represents a child killed during the Holocaust.
