O'Kane Gallery, MECA present Tejana Art Exhibit, 'Voices in Concert'

The O'Kane Gallery has partnered with Multicultural Education and Counseling through the Arts (MECA) to present the work of Tejana artists Tina Fuentes, Delilah Montoya and Kathy Vargas in the exhibition "Voices in Concert: In the Spirit of Juana Inés de la Cruz." This celebration will honor de la Cruz, the historical female icon of Mexican art and literature through the work of three Texas-based contemporary Chicana artists.

Fuentes, Montoya and Vargas demonstrate their individual experiences of gender and racial inequality through this work and their respective careers. The exhibition covers the themes of identity, freedom, transformation and exploration addressed by the Chicano Movement that began in the mid-1960s.

The opening reception will be on Thursday, March 27, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the O'Kane Gallery.
