NSLS Students Volunteer at a Homeless Shelter

Friday, April 15, members of the University of Houston-Downtown (UHD) chapter of the National Honor Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS) volunteered at The Beacon to lend a helping hand to the homeless shelter's laundry center.

Approximately nine NSLS students participated in this cause. Students also distributed clothes they collected through the NSLS, "Spring Cleaning with Meaning," clothing drive, which was held on campus, March 2016.

Currently, the UHD society chapter has an additional 317 members who are working toward their May 2 induction. "We're very proud of our members," said Gitzell Ramales-Perez, NSLS chapter president. "The society has had a significant impact on our campus, inspiring our students to become better leaders, and helping them build a better future for themselves, the campus and their respective communities"

The Beacon is a nonprofit organization that aids Houston's homeless community with services that range from meals to medical care.
