Natural Sciences Examines 'Impact of Cancer on Society' Tomorrow

By: Mary Ann Cozza

The Natural Sciences Department is sponsoring a presentation Friday that will examine the various aspects of cancer research and the themes of cancer in the First-Year Common Reading Experience book, "The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks."

"Will There Ever Be a Cure for Cancer: The Impact of Cancer on Society" will be from 11 a.m. to noon in room 1099N, One Main Building, and will review the science of cancer, the role of public funding in cancer research, the logistics of how cancer research is carried out and the impact cancer has on our society.

Audrea Burns and Maria Fadri, post doctoral fellows at the Baylor College of Medicine, have experience in different aspects of cancer research and are the organizers of the presentation. They are teaching at UHD this semester as part of an Institutional Research and Academic Career Development Awards grant collaboration with BCM.
