Breast cancer is sometimes found after symptoms appear, but many women with breast cancer have no symptoms. Studies show that breast cancer survival rate is 98 percent when detected early, making regular screenings a critical component in the fight against the disease.

The Rose, a Houston-based nonprofit breast health provider, will bring its Mobile Mammography Program to the University of Houston-Downtown (UHD) on Tuesday, Dec. 5 to provide on-site mammography screenings for faculty and staff and their spouses. The Rose's mobile suite offers all early detection technology advantages, including state-of-the art 3D digital imaging, which has proven especially beneficial to women who have dense breast tissue.

The Rose accepts major insurance plans, ACA, Medicare, Medicaid Plus and discounted prices to those who self-pay, allowing part-time, contract and temporary employees to also benefit. According to The Rose, many women cite cost and lack of access as barriers to preventive services and often delay or worse, skip annual screenings. As part of its mission to provide access to screening, diagnostics and treatment services to any woman regardless of her ability to pay, The Rose promotes mammograms for three uninsured women as funding the service of one uninsured woman.

The Rose's Mobile Mammogram suite will be parked from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on 2nd Street between One Main Building and the Visitor's Parking Garage. Each appointment takes approximately 15 to 20 minutes, and results are sent to you and your Primary Care Physician or OBGYN. Appointments must be made in advance by registering online at the-rose.org/mobile, with code: UHD.
