Message from the President: Homecoming Week 2022

UHD President Loren J. Blanchard

Happy Homecoming, Gators!

Homecoming Week is a special time here at University of Houston-Downtown—a time for UHD students, faculty, and staff to celebrate the accomplishments and history of our University. We also welcome alumni back to their alma mater to share in the experience and to share in our pride and enthusiasm for UHD.

The theme for this year’s Homecoming Week 2022 is “Back to the Bayou,” and the week of October 10-15, is packed with events ranging from the UHD Talent Show and Noche Latina to the Friday Night Formal. I personally invite you to the Homecoming Barbeque on the South Deck on Tuesday, October 11, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. I hope you will join me for good food and even better fellowship.

Homecoming culminates on Saturday, October 15, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. with Tail-Gatoring, a traditional tailgate cook-off complete with food, contests, and an all-around good time. Join us, too, as we face Prairie View A&M on the basketball court at 4 p.m. to round out the festivities. A complete schedule of campus events is available on UHD’s Homecoming web page.

Finally, I applaud our Northwest Campus for holding a canned goods drive throughout the week. As UHD Gators, we remain committed to service to others and to supporting one another for a more just and equitable society.

As you head “Back to the Bayou,” fully expect to enjoy our time together as we celebrate our accomplishments and look ahead to the great things in store for us as UHD Gators! See you soon!

Sincerely,

Loren J. Blanchard, Ph.D.
