Men’s Basketball Club Opens Season in Wellness & Success Center

On the one-month anniversary of the grand opening of the Wellness & Success Center, the first-ever club sports game held there will go down in UHD history at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 17! 

The men’s basketball club team will be hosting Rice University at the start of the Houston Club Sports Basketball Conference (HCSBC). The Gators are defending champions in the conference after winning the club’s first conference championship since 2011 last Fall (fourth overall). Ten of the 11 students from the Fall team return this Spring with head coach Eric Taylor’s club team. The Spring 2023 schedule for the men’s basketball club team is available online. Admission is FREE for all home basketball club games in the WSC.

Other club sports teams continue or begin their seasons this weekend and next week. 

The men’s soccer club team will begin their Spring season in the Lone Star Sport Club Conference at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 18. The Gators will take on the University of Houston (UH) Cougars at UH’s Gertner Fields. Head Coach and UHD alum Thompson Antwi has a lot of new faces this semester, but likes how hard his team has been working leading up to this first game of the season. The wrestling club team will continue their season in the National Collegiate Wrestling Association. The club has competed in meets this Spring at Texas A&M University on Feb. 4 and The University of Texas-Arlington (UT-Arlington) on Feb. 12. The Gators head back to UT-Arlington this weekend on Feb. 18, which will be their final meet before the NCWA Southwest Conference Championships on Feb. 25. Wrestling will begin at noon in the Maverick Activities Center on the UT-Arlington campus. The wrestling club team’s Spring 2023 schedule is available online.

The women’s volleyball club team begins their Spring season on Feb. 22 on the road at Lone Star College-Cy Fair. The Gators will return for their first home match and first-ever match in the WSC at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 1, versus Lone Star College-North Harris.
