Mayor Parker Asks Dynamo Fans for Citizenship Month Support

Houston's Mayor Annise Parker issued a call on Sunday, Oct. 20, to all Houston Dynamo fans at BBVA Compass Stadium to participate in the City of Houston's Citizenship Month by getting involved with their communities.

Mayor Parker, joined by First Lady Kathy Hubbard and members of the City's Citizenship Month Committee, greeted Dynamo fans during half-time and unveiled a Citizenship Month public service message.

"The month will feature a series of events highlighting 'the many faces of Houston' sponsored by numerous community partners representative of the city's diversity," said city officials. "The month's activities are designed to promote good citizenship through civic engagement, leadership and volunteer community service."

Committee members in attendance included co-chairs Dr. Noël Bezette-Flores, executive director of the UHD Center for Public Service and Family Strengths, and Claudia Ortega-Hogue, southwest regional director of the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials. UHD President William Flores, who is an honorary co-chair of Citizenship Month, was also in attendance.

UHD is a proud primary sponsor of Citizenship Month and has a long-standing relationship with downtown neighbor, the Houston Dynamo.
