Master of Public Accountancy Program Seeks to Fill Growing Industry Need

The University of Houston-Downtown’s Marilyn Davies College of Business new Master of Professional Accountancy program is seeking to meet the growing need for professionals who are seeking to advance in the field and take the certified public accountant (CPA) exam.

Currently, applications are currently being accepted for the Spring 2021 semester. The deadline to apply for the Spring 2021 semester is January 5, 2021.

“For students considering advancing in a professional accounting position, now is the time to prepare for the future,” Assistant Director of Graduate Studies Marilyn Dement said. “The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) is predicting strong job growth in accounting employment opportunities in Houston and the United States through the year 2028.”

The BLS survey also showed Houston has the highest median wage for accountants ($86,188 per annum) of any city in Texas. UHD’s MPAC students will gain expertise in advanced accounting classes including accounting research and writing and ethics and legal issues in accounting. The courses will be taught by faculty and industrial professionals.

Dement said the program will offer courses in the evening and online to enable students with the ability to balance time between work, family, and college responsibilities with minimal disruptions. She added that UHD also offers one of the most attractive tuition rates in Houston and offers financial support to graduate students in the way of scholarships, grants and loans.

For more details on the MPAC program or to sign up for upcoming information sessions are encouraged to visit the MPAC website.
