Marilyn Davies College of Business Suits Up with JCPenney

Summary

By Sheryl E. Taylor

Long-time retailer, JCPenney is hosting a special event for members of the Houston-Area Consoritum of Career Centers (HACCC) that include the Marilyn Davies College of Business’ Career Center and University of Houston Downtown's Career Development Center (CDC).

This HACCC-initiated event is also hosting seven HACC institutions: University of Houston, Houston Baptist University, University of Houston-Clear Lake, Rice University, Texas Southern University, and University of Houston-Victoria.

The inaugural JCPenney Suit-Up event is offering students access to resources, which will help them customize and finalize their professional look. Students will learn about and acquire professional dress attire that is appropriate when searching (attending Career Fairs) and interviewing for internships and full-time career opportunities. Participating students will also have the opportunity to receive makeovers (hair and makeup) for professional pictures. In addition to hosting the event, JCPenney is also offering a 40 percent coupon that is good off of select men’s and women’s career dress apparel and shoes.

“Many of our students don’t know what professional dress means and they often don’t know where to purchase these types of items,” said Brett Hobby, director of MDCOB Career Center. “Even if they are aware, they also may not have the financial resources to actually purchase these items. This event will help educate our students and also provide a way for them to affordably purchase items they can use for years to come.”

Hobby hopes this event can become an annual or bi-annual (fall/spring) tradition.

“This is a unique and special opportunity for our students. They should not miss it!” he said.
