Dear UHD Faculty and Staff,

UHD is engaged in a very important process to reaffirm our accreditation through the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). I would appreciate your feedback on our efforts.

One central component of this process is the selection and development of a Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP). The QEP is a five-year plan for an initiative that will enhance student learning. A successful QEP will reflect the mission and values of UHD. It will enhance and complement the objectives outlined in our strategic plan. It will enable us to continue our important goal of student success.

SACSCOC defines a QEP as the following: Engaging the wider academic community and addressing one or more issues that contribute to institutional improvement, the plan should be focused, succinct, and limited in length. The QEP describes a carefully designed and focused course of action that addresses a well-defined topic or issue(s) related to enhancing student learning.

A panel of UHD representatives led by Faculty Senate President, Susan Henney, reviewed QEP topics. They did an outstanding job and provided a report that outlines their recommendations.

The committee's report is accessible online. The document discusses each potential topic at length. I would appreciate your reviewing this document and providing me with your opinions. I value your observations, and appreciate any insights that you can offer regarding these topics. Please provide me with your comments no later than Friday, January 16. Our next step in this process will be for me to review each of your comments and make a final selection on the QEP topic. A formal committee will be established to develop a full plan for implementation of the selected QEP, along with a timeline, learning outcomes and other deliverables. We will keep you informed on this process.
