Learn About UHD’s Food for Change Market

Students at the University of Houston-Downtown have a unique opportunity to pick up fresh produce, meats, and other groceries at no cost thanks to the UHD Food for Change Program. The program, which is in partnership with the Houston Food Bank, allows students to save money on food each week regardless of their financial status.

How does it work?

  • The application is a two-step process. First, check your GatorMail to access and complete the application. You will receive your personal UHD Food for Change ID number and a link to the second part of the application when you complete the UHD Application.

  • Next, complete the Food for Change application by following the link you received from the UHD Application. You will need to reference this number throughout the second step in the application process. You are encouraged to complete the application at one time. which will take about 15 minutes to complete.

  • Completion of the application will allow you to shop in the UHD Food for Change Market for up to 40 pounds of goods a week. You can return multiple times each week until you reach the 40-pound limit.

  • No payment is required when shopping in the market, the goal is to reduce stress as you manage your academic and personal responsibilities.

  • You can shop for goods before, in between, or after class to help supplement your family's food needs.

Students can submit an application and stop by the market to learn more and shop. The UHD Food for Change Market is located on the second floor of the One Main Building in S292, near Student Activities and the new Counseling Services area, and is open Monday - Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
