It’s All in the Family!

At noon on Thursday, Jan. 25, the UHD campus community will join together to kick off the University’s 50th anniversary in the Robertson Auditorium with award-winning Weekend Anchor and Reporter Marcelino Benito acting as emcee. Named Best TV Reporter in 2016 by the Texas Associated Press, Benito has many credits to his name—including being married to a UHD Gator!
His wife, Rafaella Azevedo Benito, graduated in December 2023 with a degree in Psychology. “My wife’s story is a long one full of purpose and determination,” said Benito. “She had to move back home to Brazil soon after we met here in Houston. She was halfway through college there when we got married and moved back to Houston. It was tough because a lot of her credits didn’t transfer, and she took several courses at HCC before transferring to UHD. It took her a little longer than she would have liked, but she managed to fulfill her dream of attaining a degree in the U.S. while working and raising our two-year-old daughter.” We call that Gator grit!
Beaming with pride for his wife, a straight-A student, Benito joins all Gators on Thursday to launch a yearlong celebration of 50 years of UHD.
