For the 2017-18 aid year, students can file their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as early as Oct. 1, 2016, rather than waiting until Jan. 1, 2017. Students will also now report income and tax information from an earlier tax year. For example, students will report their 2015 income and tax information, rather than 2016 income and tax information for the 2017-18 school year.
