History Professor Honored as Outstanding Student Org Sponsor

alvarez_laremontRecently, the Texas State Historical Association's (TSHA) Education Committee awarded Jose Alvarez, associate social sciences professor, with the David C. De Boe Memorial Award for outstanding Walter Prescott Webb Historical Society chapter sponsor.

The Webb Historical Society works through college and university history departments to encourage students to discover, research, write, and publish the history of Texas as they find it where they live.

TSHA Director of Educational Services Steve Cure presented the award at the annual meeting in San Antonio. Gene Preuss, associate professor, accepted the award for Alvarez, as he could not attend this year's meeting.

Last year, Professor Garna Christian was also recognized by the TSHA for his many years of service and commitment to Texas history with the Mary Jon and J. P. Bryan Leadership in Education Award, and in 2012, the UHD Webb Society was awarded Chapter of the Year.

"It's an honor to work with colleagues who have been recognized by the state association for their hard work and dedication," Preuss said.
