Growth at UHD Northwest Continues

4K4A3279The University of Houston-Downtown (UHD) doesn't just deliver degrees amongst the city's skyscrapers. UHD has been consistently expanding its academic offerings throughout the greater Houston area. Now, UHD Northwest, located at Lone Star College University Park (20515 State Highway 249), is prepared to grow its learning spaces to further accommodate students.

UHD Northwest, serving communities in Cypress, Tomball, Spring/Klein, Katy, Waller and The Woodlands, is set to grow its academic space by 8,137 square feet. This expansion, made possible by a new lease agreement with Lone Star College, will devote a portion of Building 12's fifth floor to UHD amenities. These include five new classrooms, two offices and an education resource center with computers, printers and library.

The new space will open in time for the fall semester and create additional room on the third floor of Building 12 for an expansion of the College of Business and W.I. Dykes Library, as well as the addition of a writing center.

The added space will provide UHD Northwest, with a total of nearly 40,000 square feet on a multi-institutional campus also shared by the Lone Star College and the University of Houston.

UHD Northwest began delivering courses in 2010. It currently offers 19 undergraduate and three graduate degree programs. Students also can earn graduate certificates from UHD's College of Business at the campus. A list of degree and certificate programs can be found here. Approximately 1,500 students are enrolled in classes at UHD Northwest.

"UHD has made the commitment to serving the communities in this area of Houston," said Louis D. Evans III, executive director of Off-Campus Locations and Online Coordination. "The demand for higher education in the region has certainly warranted an expansion at this campus. We look forward to continuing to serve more students here and at our other off-campus locations."

UHD Northwest is among the University's campuses providing educational opportunities throughout the Houston area. UHD programs and courses also are available at UHD at Lone Star College CyFair and UHD at Lone Star College Kingwood. UHD's presence at all three of these campuses is made possible through a partnership with Lone Star College.

"We value our relationship with Lone Star College," Evans said. "This collaboration continues to create wonderful opportunities for students throughout the region."
