'Gators Speak' Workshop Offers Student Perspective to High School Counselors, Teachers

More than thirty high school counselors and senior teachers attended the "Gators Speak" workshop hosted Monday at UHD. The daylong interactive workshop focused on topics ranging from study skills to the challenges facing first generation students and the importance of making the most of the university experience through involvement in campus organizations. University College's AVID tutors Brittney Burton, Francisco Delgado, Aracely Garcia, Michellee Gutierrez, Carolina Perez Lopez and Daral Moore-Washington developed and presented the workshop. Gen TX sponsored the program, which was funded through a grant from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board to the West Houston P16 Council. Sangeeta Gad, Alvin Johnson and Mari Nicholson-Preuss facilitated the program.
