Gator Athlete of the Month: Jasmin Rendon

Summary

By Bryce Calabaza

Jasmine Rendon

Jasmin Rendon is a UHD soccer player and senior majoring in Philosophy. She was born and raised in Houston and attended Pasadena High School. During her time there, she participated in the Pasadena Early College High College (PECHS) program, which allowed her to earn an associate degree at San Jacinto College Central Campus before earning a high school diploma and enrolling at UHD. She has played soccer ever since she was in elementary school, but she didn’t join a team until she was in the 7th grade.

Why Soccer?: The soccer team at UHD has been my safe haven. I can play different positions, but I have solely been playing as a forward lately and have learned so much from the coaches and my teammates. My team feels like family, especially this season. Our chemistry off the field has been amazing which helps translate onto the field!

Favorite Soccer Players: Lionel Messi, Tobin Heath and Carli Lloyd.

Favorite Professor: Dr. Joseph Westfall (Associate Professor of Philosophy) creates a safe environment for every student in his class and welcomes us with open arms. He has been great in helping me understand concepts within philosophy, but most importantly, he is passionate about what he teaches.

Why I chose UHD: I honestly chose UHD solely because of my financial situation. I didn’t tour the school or know anything about it. Thanks to my decision to enroll, I was able to learn how amazing this campus is and how friendly and determined the people are here.

After UHD: I plan to continue playing the sport I love and travel around the world!
