Freshman Seminar Students Educate Community on World AIDS Day

World AIDS Day Student Symposium

The Stand Out! Group and students from Dr. Poonam Gulati's Freshman Seminar class, AIDS & Society, held a symposium at UHD on World AIDS Day, Dec 1.

The freshmen presented posters on various aspects of HIV/AIDS, including the biology of HIV, the history of the disease, AIDS in Africa, the role of the immune system, political roles, AIDS in Texas, the race to discover HIV, and HIV in the LGBTQ community. The colorful displays informed viewers about this devastating syndrome that continues to affect many in the US and abroad.

World AIDS Day is held each year as an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, show their support for people living with HIV and to commemorate people who have died. World AIDS Day was the first ever global health day and was first recognized in 1988.
