Follett Higher Education Group to Manage UHD Bookstore

In June, the University of Houston-Downtown Bookstore will be under new management. Follett Higher Education Group, the nation’s largest campus retailer in North America, will manage the UHD Bookstore, as well as other retail outlets at all University of Houston System (UHS) universities.

Follett will officially begin managing the UHD Bookstore on June 24 and is working to facilitate a smooth transition to accommodate faculty, staff and students.

Faculty textbook requests that have been submitted for Summer I, Summer II and Fall have been transferred to Follett.

Requests that have not been submitted for Summer II must be submitted no later than June 7. Fall requests must be submitted by July 1. Requests should be submitted to Follett here with the following information:

  • Term
  • Department
  • Course number
  • Section or Course Reference Number
  • Estimated Enrollment
  • Instructor Name
  • Instructor phone and email address
  • Author
  • Title
  • Edition
  • ISBN number
  • Required or Recommended designation. (It’s important to note this information even if a text is not required.)

A new online system for textbook adoptions will be developed in time for spring 2020 requests. More details will be available on this system during the fall semester.

In addition to the June 7 and July 1 deadlines, other important dates are as follows:

  • June 14 – Final Day of Operations for the bookstore’s current management
  • June 24 – Follett will assume operations of the UHD Bookstore

During the transition period (June 17 through June 21), needed scrantrons and bluebooks for exams will be available free of charge at the following locations:

  • Student Affairs, OMB S380
  • Veterans Affairs, GSB 318
  • W. I. Dykes Library, OMB S501

The UH System Board of Regents recently approved a contract with Follett to manage retail bookstores at all UHS institutions.
