First Alumni Book Club Off to a Great Start

UHD's first Alumni Book Club, in conjunction with Freshman Convocation, has gotten off to a great start. Liza Alonzo, associate director of community involvement, said that 45 alumni have volunteered to participate in the project that includes reading the First-Year Common Reading program's book "The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks," and participating in literary discussions with students at the convocation.

"I am excited to see so many alumni take time out of their lives to read this text in support of our new incoming students," Alonzo said. "Many have expressed interest in developing and participating in future alumni sponsored events."

So far, the Club has met twice at the UHD Coffeehouse to discuss the book, get to know one another and prepare for the group discussions with freshman students.
