Faculty/Staff Giving Campaign Kicks Off Feb. 28

MarchMadnessLogoMarch Madness is almost here! Just because UHD doesn't have an NCAA basketball team, doesn't mean that university employees can't each "take their shot at making the goal."

The second annual Faculty/Staff Annual Giving Campaign committee has formed its own March Madness and challenges you to take your shot! This employee giving campaign kicks off next Thursday, Feb. 28. Faculty and staff are invited to stop by the Coffee House from noon until 2 p.m. to celebrate raising money for our students and programs. To enter, just bring your completed pledge card and enjoy plenty of barbeque, music and fun.

The Faculty/Staff Annual Giving Campaign allows UHD employees the opportunity to celebrate our students and programs by giving back to the University. Employees will be filling out their pledge cards and making gifts to the Annual Fund during the entire month of March. Next week, a representative from each department or college will begin handing out the pledge cards or placing them in employees' boxes. We encourage you to fill out your card and turn them in at the kickoff or any time during March Madness.

The committee of UHD faculty and staff that will spearhead the March event include:

  • Tim Redl (College of Science & Technology), Co-chair
  • Leigh Van Horn (College of Public Service), Co-Chair
  • Liza Alonzo (Student Services)
  • Mary Torres (Financial Administration)
  • Houghton Brown (College of Business)
  • Erica Morales (Employee Services & Operations)
  • Gene Preuss (College of Humanities & Social Sciences)
  • Jaha Williams (Advancement & External Relations)

The committee is very enthusiastic about the campaign and hope every employee will continue to recognize the importance of this initiative and participate by making another gift.

Williams said, "It's not about the amount of the gift; rather, we want to encourage everyone to participate. So, whether you consider your gift as large or small, all contributions are accepted, encouraged and greatly appreciated."

Participants in the campaign will be automatically entered into drawings to win great gifts. For details on how to be included in the drawing, employees are encouraged to speak to their department's coordinator.

Proceeds from this campaign will benefit student scholarships, specific college programs or initiatives, the W.I. Dykes Library, Sport & Fitness Student Life Center, and/or an existing endowment fund at the University. Donors will use their pledge cards to designate where their donations should go.

For questions about the campaign, please contact Jaha Williams at 713-221-8184 or Liza Alonzo at 713-221-8682.
