Facilities Update: Gas Outage on Campus This Weekend

This weekend, the Facilities Management department will convert the University of Houston-Downtown's emergency generators from diesel fuel to natural gas.

In the event of a weather emergency, the conversion will ensure an uninterrupted supply of energy to power the generators to allow natural gas to be used instead of diesel fuel, which has to be trucked in. This is one of several mitigation actions being employed by UHD in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.

The natural natural gas supply to the One Main Complex be shut off from 5 p.m., Friday, Oct. 5 until 5 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 7. During this time, there will be no hot water in One Main, Academic Building, Girard Building/Welcome Center, and Student Life Center.

During this time, the campus will remain open; however, Starbucks will not be available on Oct. 6.
