Education Students Pen Bilingual Children's Books

Thirty-four students enrolled in the Children's Spanish Literature (PED 3314) course gathered with family, friends and community members on Tuesday, Nov. 25 at "An Evening with the Writers." The event gave students an opportunity to exhibit and read excerpts from the bilingual storybooks they wrote, which were designed to assist young Latino children in their quest toward literacy.

Teachers and students from Crockett Elementary School as well as faculty and staff from Child Protective Services attended the event; the organizations will use the electronic version of each book for classroom literacy initiatives. Sponsored by the Sylvester Turner Community Partnership Grant, the storybook project focuses on high-impact learning experiences for UHD students and emphasizes the importance of civic engagement.
