Education Honor Society Inducts More than 50 Students

UHD's Omega Phi Chapter of Kappa Delta Pi, an international honor society in education, inducted more than 50 urban education students this semester. The group included students from various stages in their teaching preparation and certification areas, but who have maintained high academic achievement and exhibited the ideals of scholarship, integrity in service, and commitment to excellence in teaching and its allied professions.
Initiates, their families and friends were inspired by the speaker, Velma Correa, a teacher in Aldine Independent School District, who offered words of wisdom to the future teachers. Cadets from UHD's Criminal Justice Training Center also actively participated in this semi-annual event exemplifying the University's efforts to engage students in high impact activities. Students, families and friends witnessed how the College of Public Service works collaboratively with the community at large. The ceremony was officiated by Assistant Professor Christal Burnett and Associate Professor Angela López Pedrana from the Department of Urban Education.
