Disability Awareness Week Observed Oct. 15-17

The Office of Disability Services (ODS) is proud to present Disability Awareness Week Oct. 15 - 17. Next week, UHD will host several events and activities designed to raise awareness about the services ODS offers as well as provide students with additional resources at the university and state levels. Students can expect to hear from the Texas Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services (DARS) Division of Blind Services, learn more about a UH alum's experiences and challenges in corporate America and attend the movie screening.

Monday, Oct. 15

Assistive Technology/Community Resources Fair

Location: Mural Area, 3rd Floor, Academic Building

Time: 11 a.m. - 1 p.m.

A fair featuring and displaying technology equipment used for students with various disabilities. In addition to technology, this fair will highlight community organizations/agencies that provide services for individual with disabilities.

Tuesday, Oct. 16

Presentations/Simulation Course

Location: Academic Building Room A300

Time: 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Blind/Vision Awareness - Donnie Gatlin, The Texas Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services (DARS) Division of Blind Services will present on Blind/Vision Awareness

Working in Corporate America - Aamir Nagaria, will serve as the motivational speaker for this year's event. He is a graduate of the University of Houston. Aamir is currently working in Corporate America as a person with a visual impairment and will discuss his experiences and provide insight about his condition.

Wednesday, Oct. 17

Movie Screening

Location: One Main Building Room N420

Time: 11 a.m. - 1 p.m.

The Other Sister (1999) chronicles the life and journey for independence of an intellectually disabled girl.
