Deputy Head of EU Delegation to US Discusses Global Trade, Security In UHD Address
UHD was honored to host Francois Rivasseau, the deputy head of the European Union (EU) delegation to the United States, Tuesday in partnership with the Consulate General of France in Houston, Surjiro Seam. Rivasseau's speaking engagement was the first in the President's Ambassador Lecture Series.
Rivasseau spoke to a group of university students, faculty, staff, and administrators as well as distinguished community members, including consuls from Columbia, Germany and Estonia and Asian Chamber of Commerce President Linda Toyota. He spoke on common issues that the EU and the United States share, including immigration, trade and security, noting the strong cooperative relationship between the two regions in recent years.
UHD President Bill Flores noted the importance of creating opportunities for UHD students to learn from global leaders through intellectual exchanges and expressed that this will be the first in a series of lectures hosted by UHD. Under Dr. Flores' direction, UHD is expanding efforts to increase students' knowledge and participation in global dialogues. The President's Ambassador Series was conceived to align with institutional priorities such as high-impact practices under the umbrella of diversity and global learning. Students recently formed a collegiate chapter of the United Nations Association (UNA) and members attended a national UNA conference earlier this month. UHD's Model UN, Arab League, and University Honors Program students also have been active in globalization efforts.
After leaving UHD, Rivasseau will continue speaking engagements across the U.S. before returning home.
