Davies College of Business Hosted First Accounting Career Fair
Earlier this month, the Marilyn Davies College of Business Career Center hosted its first Accounting Career Fair, separate from the semi-annual general Davies Business Career Fair.
The Davies Accounting Career Fair is the culminating event for accounting students and alumni seeking full-time employment and internship opportunities with the area's top accounting employers. Fifteen medium to large accounting firms participated in the fair. Accounting majors comprisethe largest major of undergrads at the Davies College of Business with with more than 700 students. Approximately 150 undergraduates, graduates and alumni attended the event.
Recruiters were impressed by the student turnout. UHD's attending accounting students worked hard to make a strong first impression.
"We were pleased with the attendance today, the students were very prepared and we are glad we came," said Darci Stavinoha, recruiter for GLO CPAs.
Brett Hobby, director of the Davies Career Center, added "This was our first attempt at a major-specific career fair and it went off without a hitch. I think this change allowed us to stir up more interest on both the student and employer side which therefore made the event a huge success. The students were so impressive, well prepared and eager and as one recruiter put it 'hungry for opportunity.' Our plans are to offer this same type of format for other majors in our College and we are anticipating for the same results."
