CPD Hosts Forum on Higher Education in Society

The UHD Center for Public Deliberation (CPD), led by Associate Professor Windy Lawrence and the CPD Student Associates, will hold two informational two-day forums (Nov. 6 and 8; Nov. 13 and 20) on "Shaping Our Future: How Should Higher Education Help Us Create the Society We Want."

Dave Matthews, former United States Secretary of Health, Education, and Welfare and current president of the Kettering Foundation, states, "I don't think ever before in history have this many organizations and institutions been assembled to engage the public." This event is held in partnership with the National Issues Forums Institute and the American Commonwealth Partnership to play a critical role in setting the agenda for higher education.

The agenda for the Nov. 6 and 8 event is below.

Day 1 - ROOM C222

  • 9:50 am - 10 am: Registration
  • 10 am - 10:04 am: Welcome by Dr. Windy Lawrence, UHD CPD Co-Director/Founder
  • 10:04 am - 10:13 am: Introductory video on "Shaping Our Future"
  • 10:13 am -- 10:28 am: Introduction to the forum - what is our personal stake in this issue?
  • 10:28 am -- 10:51 am: Approach 1: Focus on staying competitive on the global economy
