On Wednesday, March 9, 2016, from 3-4 p.m. in room N420, the Career Development Center will host distinguished speaker, John C. Roberts, who will discuss his career path in public service. Robert's presentation will follow the Non-Profit: Government & Public Interest Job Fair, which takes place from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in room A300, that same day.
Currently, Roberts is serving as Diplomat in Residence for Southeast Texas and Louisiana. Prior to his assignment as Diplomat in Residence, his career in the U.S. Department of State's Foreign Service included:
Director of the Civilian Response Corps in the Bureau of Conflict and Stabilization Operations; Public Affairs Officer for Barbados and the six other nations of the Eastern Caribbean; Information Officer and Acting Public Affairs Officer of the Press and Cultural Affairs Offices at U.S. Embassy Baghdad; and Member of the Executive Staff for Secretary of State Powell and Secretary of State Rice.
"We are honored to have him attend our job fair and speak to our students," said Laura A. Weseley, director of the Career Development Center. According to Weseley, both events are designed to highlight the importance of community engagement as well as to educate students about the various career options available to them in the public sector.
Students, faculty and staff are all invited to attend this exciting discussion.
