Campbell Recognized for Best Presentation at Research Conference

By: Mary Ann Cozza

Director of Academic Assessment Lea Campbell was recently awarded the Best Presentation award by the Texas Association for Institutional Research (TAIR). As part of that award, she is able to present at the upcoming Association for Institutional Research (AIR) conference in May in Long Beach, Calif.

TAIR is the professional organization supporting institutional research, planning, evaluation, and policy analysis in Texas institutions of higher education. TAIR provides professional development opportunities through its annual conference, pre- and post-conference workshops, and other professional development activities.

Campbell's presentation,"Moving Program Assessment from Perfunctory to Profound," detailed practical strategies which can help break the cycle of perfunctory data collection and faculty frustration, including: a) helping faculty develop clearly-defined learning outcomes and appropriate measures, b) viewing assessment in the context of research and the scholarship of teaching and learning, c) garnering buy-in and addressing faculty concerns, and d) building confidence in the data collection and analysis.

The award was presented to Campbell by Carol Tucker, former TAIR president and director of UHD Institutional Research.

Congratulations and good luck at the AIR conference!
