Call for Proposals for Gender Conference

Gender Warfare

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences will host the sixth annual Gender Conference from 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. April 4. This year's theme is "Gender Warfare."

All UHD students, regardless of major, are invited to present four-to-five-page papers or eight-minute presentations on the topic of gender. Sample topics could include:

 

  • Gendered representations of the military and war, post-war culture, or memories of war
  • Gender parity in education, economics, politics, religion, or health
  • Gender disparities in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math)
  • Gender and globalization
  • Gender and race
  • Gender and class

200-word abstracts or proposals are due March 3 to conference chair Dagmar Scharold, assistant English professor, via email at scharoldd@uhd.edu.

The keynote speaker is Dr. Qwo-Li Driskill, an assistant professor at Oregon State in the Women's Studies Department.

The Writing & Reading Center (WRC) will host workshops to brainstorm ideas and write proposals for the conference. The workshops will be Feb. 20, 21, 27 and 28. The specific times and workshop registration can be found on the WRC page www.uhd.edu/wrc.
