Alumni Volunteers Needed for Freshman Convocation

Incoming freshmen show their copies of "Outlier: The Story of Success," during Freshmen Convocation 2010.

Remember what it felt like to be a freshman in college? A little overwhelming, unsure where to turn for help - or even where to find a place for lunch! You can help the incoming class of UHD freshmen get off to a good start.

We are inviting our alumni to help our new students get off to a strong beginning. Over the summer, more than 1,000 freshmen will read Tracy Kidder's Mountains Beyond Mountains: The Quest of Dr. Paul Farmer, A Man Who Would Cure the World and participate in a discussion and Convocation - the ceremonial beginning of a new academic year.

This year, UHD Freshman Convocation will take place Saturday, August 25, from 8 a.m. to noon. We need helpful alumni to serve as volunteers during this great and helpful event. It's all about being the friendly alumni face that helps encourage the success of a new UHD student. Volunteers will greet new students and take part in group discussions about their experiences at UHD.
