A public education professional helping students succeed and an MBA graduate who puts the “special” in special events were University of Houston-Downtown Alumni featured this month by local and regional publications.
Making A Difference
As a licensed specialist in school psychology in the Alief Independent School District, UHD Alumna Shameka Davis makes sure that children receive adequate support. The 2012 Psychology major and recent master’s graduate from the University of Houston-Victoria was featured in the Victoria Advocate newspaper.
Since 2008, Davis has worked with special education students with severe developmental and cognitive delays and has always been interested in how she could better support her students. After working as a paraprofessional and special education teacher, she decided to enroll at UHD and become a licensed specialist in school psychology.
“With patience and possibly more time, every student can obtain success,” Davis told the Advocate. “Every child can learn; it may just look a little different for each one. I enjoy working with students and their families to help them reach their maximum potential.”
MBA Alum Creating Memorable Experiences
Sheridan Labbè, who earned her MBA from UHD, is known for creating one-of-a-kind event experiences. Her business was featured as part of Voyage Houston’s Bounce Back Strong Campaign that highlighted local small businesses.
Labbè, owner and creative director of House of Untamed, has planned events and experiences for large companies and organizations for more than nine years. Before earning her MBA with a concentration in Leadership, Labbè graduated with from Sam Houston State University with a bachelor’s degree in marketing.
