All Buildings Closed for Electrical Shutdown, Dec. 28-29
The Facilities Management Department will perform two building electrical system shutdowns during the holiday break. The first shutdown will be Sunday, Dec. 28 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for the One Main Building, Academic Building and Student Life Center. The second will be on Monday, Dec. 29 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and will impact Commerce Street Building and Shea Street Building.
This scheduled power outage is for much needed electrical system maintenance and assessment to verify the operation and integrity of the campus electrical gear and emergency systems (generators, power, lights, elevators, fire detection / suppression). The buildings' elevators, air conditioning, water, power, and light systems will be out of service, therefore all campus buildings will be closed for the duration of the shutdown.
Due to the expected length of this power outage, please empty all contents from refrigerators and freezers or make other accommodations. All refrigerators should be defrosted prior to this outage. Any electrical or temperature-sensitive process or items (experiments, research projects, plant seedlings, computer servers, etc.) that will be affected by the outage should be addressed by the end-user.
Faculty and staff are reminded to please turn off all electrical devices (including computers, radios, lights, lamps, calculators) when leaving your area prior to Sunday, Dec. 28.
Facilities Management, Police, and Information Technology staff will be the only university personnel permitted in the campus buildings during this closure. UHD Police will coordinate communications at this time and will be available from off-campus locations by calling 713-221-8065.
