Activities Planned for Spring Welcome Week

It's that time of year again to welcome new and returning students back to campus for the Spring 2012 semester. To kick off the festivities in grand fashion, the UHD Welcome Week Koordinators and the Welcome Week Committee have planned several days of activities for the students.

The Koordinators will host a UHD Kinect Dance Party from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m Tuesday, Jan. 17, in Student Activities, room S-204, One Main Building. Students are invited to compete with friends using an XBox 360 Kinect and the game 'Michael Jackson: The Experience.' Cool giveaways and prizes will be available.

The group will also host Get Smart, an event for students to learn tips to success in college, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18, in A-300, the White Oak Room, Academic Building. Giveaways and refreshments will be provided. This event is co-sponsored by the Office of Academic Advising.

The Koordinators will host Be Involved, a student organization information session, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, in Student Activities, room S-204, One Main Building.

Faculty and staff volunteers will be on hand Tuesday, Jan. 17, and Wednesday, Jan. 18, in the One Main Building, Shea Building and Commerce Building passing out maps, pens, snacks and other freebies. They will be serving coffee and hot chocolate during the morning hours.

Vendors will also be on campus providing information on their services and products, including JSC Federal Credit Union, Smart Financial, METRO and Spaghetti Warehouse.

UHD Sports and Fitness will host tables and provide fitness demonstrations in the One Main Building and the Student Activities Board will sponsor a live band to perform during the first two days of classes.
