A Message From President Loren J. Blanchard: Update on the Vice President for Student Success and Student Life Position

UHD President Loren J. Blanchard

On April 17, 2023, I announced the end of our national search for the next Vice President of Student Success and Student Life (3SL), as well as Dr. Dakota Doman’s acceptance of the position. In preparation for Dr. Doman’s official first day, Dr. Liza Alonzo has been leading 3SL with plans to remain in that role through July 2.

Today, I am writing to inform you that Dr. Dakota Doman has rescinded his acceptance of the position. In response to an unanticipated leadership change at Texas Southern University (TSU), where he is now serving as Acting Chief Executive Officer through June 30, Dr. Doman has decided to honor the request of TSU leadership and remain at the institution to lead the transition process with the Interim President. While this news comes as a disappointment to the University of Houston-Downtown, I understand Dr. Doman’s decision and TSU’s need for business continuity during their season of transition.

As for the University of Houston-Downtown, please be assured of my continuing commitment to hiring the greatest talent and best fit for the unique needs of our campus community. The work to identify our next Vice President for Student Success and Student Life has begun. For now, Dr. Alonzo will continue to lead 3SL, ensuring continued progress in removing barriers to student success, optimizing learning, and improving student life.

Thank you for your patience, flexibility, and ongoing commitment to UHD’s mission throughout this process. I will provide an update on our progress in selecting the next Vice President of 3SL no later than July 14, 2023.

Sincerely,

Loren J. Blanchard, Ph.D.
President, University of Houston-Downtown
