Dear UHD Community,

I am honored to have been appointed by Chancellor Renu Khator to serve as the interim president of the University of Houston-Downtown. I am humbled that she has entrusted me to lead the second-largest four-year university in Houston, based on my passion for student success and administrative experience.

It is without question that UHD plays a unique and increasingly essential role in higher education in the Greater Houston area. Therefore, I am excited to join a team of committed, dedicated, and enthusiastic colleagues whose goals are rooted in advancing the University’s reputation and vision, through education and outreach.

The world has changed at a stunning pace this year, and we have risen to meet the challenges, because of your commitment and flexibility. Although the UHD community remains off-campus, I anticipate working closely with faculty, staff and students through virtual platforms and ultimately, in person.

Your current President, Dr. Juan Sánchez Muñoz, has accomplished much during his time here, and I commend him on an outstanding job. He has certainly left the University in a good place, and I wish him well on future endeavors.

Finally, I wish all of you the best as you continue to stay healthy and focused through these summer months. I am looking forward to joining the UHD family very soon and working hard to support the University and its students.
