UHD Ranks Among Best for Online Interdisciplinary Studies Bachelor’s Program

The University of Houston-Downtown (UHD) is ranked among the 30 best affordable online bachelor’s interdisciplinary studies programs by Best Value Schools.

Offered through the University College, UHD’s Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies (BSIS) degree is a “completion degree” created for students who are transferring from community college or for nontraditional students and working professionals who desire to complete their undergraduate degrees. The BSIS offers students flexible classes that are delivered online. It also allows them to customize curriculum to support their academic and professional goals.

For this ranking, Best Value Schools focused on public and private (non-profit) colleges and universities that offer interdisciplinary degrees online. Since its focus is on affordability, Best Value Schools only considered programs with average (value of in-state and out-of-state rates for public schools) tuition rates of $20,000 a year or less. Additionally, Best Value Schools also collected data in four categories:

  • Program Popularity: How many undergraduates choose to earn their degree in interdisciplinary studies over a more traditional major?
  • Overall Online Program Strength: How many online bachelor’s degrees does the school offer? Having more programs available online means more course options (as well as resources and experienced faculty) for interdisciplinary studies majors who want to earn their degree at a distance.
  • Academic Variety: How many different academic disciplines or concentrations does the school offer as part of its interdisciplinary studies program?
  • Affordability: What is the average annual cost of attendance?

According to the website, UHD stands for the broad academic versatility, program popularity, overall online program strength, and affordability.
