UHD Hosting Earth Day Activities April 16

On April 16, the University of Houston-Downtown will host its Earth Day celebration from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Mural Area of the Academic Building. University organizations, including the UHD Garden Club, Vegan Club and students who maintain the University's Pocket Prairie, will be on hand to distribute giveaways and offer information on how Gators can implement sustainable practices into their daily lives.

Giveaways include reusable mugs, grocery bags and wildflower seed balls. Community members also can register for a field trip to a Houston-area pocket prairie.

Faculty, staff and students also can learn about UHD's very own pocket prairie, located in Johnny Goyen Park (visible from the South Deck).

Also, information on maintaining a vegan diet and lifestyle will be available courtesy of the Vegan Club.

Earth Day events are coordinated by UHD's Center for Urban Agriculture and Sustainability. These activities complement other initiatives presented by the Center, including the recently launched Community Education program with classes on urban farming, renewable energy and other topics.
