UHD, ABC13 Hosting Feb. 26 Town Hall on Houston's Recovery from Harvey

The University of Houston-Downtown will again partner with KTRK ABC13 to host a town hall addressing issues relevant to the community. On Feb. 26, UHD and ABC13 will present "Houston After Harvey," a town hall exploring the city's recovery from the historic storm.

The event will begin at 6 p.m. in the Tour Room of UHD's Welcome Center (201 Girard Street). UHD President, Dr. Juan Sánchez Muñoz will be among the panelists participating in this event. Other presenters are as follows:

  • Claudia Aguirre, CEO of BakerRipley
  • Cynthia Colbert, CEO of Catholic Charities
  • Houston Fire Chief Sam Peña
  • Houston Police Department Assistant Chiefs Matt Slinkard and Larry Satterwhite
  • Representatives from FEMA

Representatives from the Houston Housing Authority also will be on hand to review denied claims from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and answer questions. Students and their families having their claims reviewed must bring their FEMA registration ID numbers. The number was assigned upon successful registration at disasterassistance.gov

Ruama Camp, UHD's disaster assistance specialist, also will be in attendance to offer information to students regarding FEMA benefits and other avenues of recovery.

The event is open to the campus community and will be moderated by ABC13 anchor/reporter Chauncy Glover and streamed live on the ABC13 website.

The upcoming forum is the fourth collaboration between the University and ABC13. Previous partnerships include the 2015 Mayor's Debate, 2016 Sheriff's Debate and 2017 DACA Town Hall.
