On Dec. 15, the University of Houston-Downtown Police Department (UHDPD) recognized six officers who received promotions in rank. Members of the campus community, friends and family members gathered in the Welcome Center’s Milam/Travis Rooms to celebrate these officers’ accomplishments.

Honorees:

  • Imelda Rodriguez, Sergeant
  • Hector Gutierrez, Officer
  • Vincent Wilkins, Officer
  • Ricardo Reyna, Detective
    David DeLeon, Assistant Chief

According to UHDPD Chief Michael Benford, this event marked the first time six officers were promoted simultaneously. Likewise, Rodriquez became the first female officer at UHD to be promoted to a supervisor.

Honorees took the Oath of Honor and received new badges that were pinned on their uniforms by either peers or family members.

“This badge denotes responsibility,” Benford said. “Everywhere you go, you not only represent yourself and your family, but you represent this department and this University. Today, you’ve achieved a level of success in your careers. Don’t let this be your last opportunity in our department. Be prepared for the next one. Always do your best and always be prepared. And always remember we are leaders in what we do, what we say and how we serve.”
