The University of Houston-Downtown Police Department (UHDPD) is continuing one of its annual holiday traditions for families in need.
Last year, UHD officers provided a family of seven with all the fixings from Luby’s. This year, they will pool their funds from fellow officers with the help of local radio station, KCOH-FM, to provide a Thanksgiving feast for 10 families.
The officers decided to make this a tradition with the hope that it becomes bigger and better each year. They’ve even issued challenges to other agencies to join them.
“In the wake that everything our city has been through since Harvey, we are privileged and blessed in so many ways,” said UHDPD Sgt. Trinity Delafance. “And, this is our opportunity to give back to those who deserve a simple basic need.”
This year, the 10 families will receive a box filled with all the trimmings to prepare their own homemade feast. The UHD community is invited and encouraged to nominate families that they believe are deserving of a great Thanksgiving.

UHDPD will continue to spread holiday cheer by donating toys for Christmas to six boys and six girls. Look for more information in an upcoming issue of UHD News.
