One Main Building's First Floor Continues Post-Harvey Recovery

Summary

By Mike Emery

The University of Houston-Downtown (UHD) has many Harvey heroes, who worked day and night during the storm, to help the campus recover. While staff members and contractors helped UHD resume classes by Sept. 5, the first floor building of the One Main Building is still undergoing repairs and remediation.

Offices and departments on that floor have been displaced and temporarily relocated. Still, it's business as usual for some of the University's most crucial operations: Facilities Management, Parking & Transportation, UHD Police Department (UHDPD), and the Mailroom/Shipping & Receiving.

Parking & Transportation has been temporarily relocated to a trailer next to the Visitor's Garage on Girard Street and remains fully operational, issuing permits and responding to parking-related inquiries.

According to Mary Torres, director of University Business Services, the Mailroom also has been relocated to a temporary trailer.

The Mailroom trailer is located off Girard Street on the east side of the One Main Building next to the loading docks.

Torres said that mail is still being processed on time, but some deliveries of packages will take longer than usual due to the inaccessibility of some UHD freight elevators.

Facilities Management can be accessed at S280 or by calling 713-221-8026.

UHDPD's offices also are temporarily displaced. The department's administrative offices and dispatch center have relocated to the second floor. Faculty, staff and students may continue to contact UHDPD at 713-221-8065 (non-emergency or for after hours building access) or 713-221-8911 (emergency). A security officer is stationed at the North Deck Lobby from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days a week and can offer information or help access UHDPD officers. Regardless of any changes in location, UHDPD remains fully staffed and ready to serve the University community.
