The 2017 Freshman Common Reader/Convocation event commenced on Sept 15 with a welcome from UHD President Dr. Juan Sánchez Muñoz followed by Senior Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs and Provost Ed Hugetz, who introduced this year’s keynote speaker author Jennifer Teege.

The author of “My Grandfather Would Have Shot Me: A Black Woman Discovers Her Family’s Nazi Past” participated in a Q&A with Dr. Hank Roubicek, professor of communication studies in the College of Humanities & Social Sciences.

The event concluded with a book signing, alumni panel and the O’Kane Gallery exhibition,“When They Came to Take My Father,” featuring photographs by Mark Seliger, and the Holocaust Museum of Houston’s “The Butterfly Project.”
