President's Message: Dean Michael Fields Announces Retirement

Dear UHD Community,

Dr. Michael Fields has helped drive the immense growth of the Marilyn Davies College of Business. As dean, he’s transformed the Davies College into one of the city’s leading institutions for graduate and undergraduate business studies.

Recently, Dean Fields informed me of his intention to retire at the conclusion of this academic year. His contributions as an academic leader are immeasurable, and I thank him for his tremendous service to the College and our University.

It goes without saying that Dean Fields has been at the helm of the Davies College during some of its most pivotal moments, including the recent $10 million naming gift from Marilyn Davies. According to Ms. Davies, “Dean Fields has done a tremendous job for UHD and the College, and we will continue to strive for greater heights as he did. I wish him all the best.” Under his leadership, the College’s Master of Business Administration program has experienced steady growth and is consistently ranked as one of the largest in Houston. Students from across Greater Houston are drawn to this program because of its unique approach to instruction that offers a mix of academic theory and practical insight.

Dean Fields will serve in his current role through May 2018 and continue to support our College through the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business reaccreditation process later in the fall.

He has been an asset to our University since his arrival in 2013, and we are grateful for his hard work and dedication to the Marilyn Davies College of Business. A search committee will soon be created to identify candidates for his successor. I will inform the UHD Community when its members and chair are selected.

Please join me in acknowledging Dean Fields’ contributions to UHD and wish him well in his future endeavors.

Thank you, Dean Fields.

Sincerely,

Dr. Juan Sánchez Muñoz
UHD President
