Growth at Heart of CHSS Department Changes

Summary

By Sheryl E. Taylor

UHD's largest academic unit, the College of Humanities & Social Sciences (CHSS), is reorganizing its departments to better serve its faculty, students and staff. This change is in response to the growth of the College, particularly majors in psychology and communication studies.

"Our goal was to address the College's current configuration with respect to the number of full-time faculty, majors, degree programs and student credit hours, as well as disciplinary alignments," said Dr. DoVeanna Fulton, dean of CHSS. "Disciplinary alignment is an essential component of this reorganization to foster greater collaboration in research and teaching, which will enrich our academic programs."

Beginning this fall, CHSS is shifting some of its academic programs among its departments as well as adding a fourth department. Students can rest assured that CHSS academic programs and degree plans will not change during this realignment. Changes are as follows:

  • Arts & Communications (Chair Dr. Azar Rejaie):

  • Fine Arts
  • Communication Studies
