Cleburne Dragon Boat Festival: UHD Snags First Place

The University of Houston-Downtown (UHD) Dragon Boat Team participated in the first Cleburne Dragon Boat Festival in Cleburne, Texas on July 29 and 30. The team won the Community Cup after racing on Lake Pat Cleburne in a traditional Hong Kong style Buk dragon boat.

According to The Texas Dragon Boat Association, dragon boat racing is the world's fastest growing water sport. The sport combines tradition, strategy, modern-day teamwork and fun. The UHD Dragon Boat Team competed against: Cajun Invasion, FYP Island Warriors, Dallas United Pink, and Cleburne Chamber/Cleburne Community Connection.

UHD Dragon Boat Team included the following faculty, staff, students and alumni:

Organizations supporting the team included UHD's Staff Council, Student Activities, and Parking & Transportation.

On Oct. 7 and 8, the Team will participate in the Gulf Coast International Dragon Boat Regatta in Sugar Land, Texas.
